Our Fruit Garden and Orchard

31st Jan 2023

Have you noticed our new fruit garden and orchard?

Miss P Smith’s P6 class have been taking part in the Radius Housing shared education, Biodiversity Garden Project.

They have been completing workshops online with Lisnagelvin Primary School and Gareth from Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful to learn about Biodiversity and design their gardens.

This week the children visited every class in the school and gave a presentation about what they were doing. They confidently answered questions about their Garden

Today was planting day. The boys and girls worked tirelessly to plant 2 apple trees, 2 pear trees, 2 plum trees, as well as blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry and raspberry bushes. They have strawberries too but are looking after them in class until the weather improves. The boys and girls will look after the garden until harvesting in Autumn. They are planning to make apple juice and jams if they have enough fruit. ?

We are asking everyone to stay off the grass to let everything settle and grow.

Well done to all the boys and girls for creating this fantastic new area and to Gareth and his team for helping us. We are so excited to see how everything grows.
